December Doings in the Flower Garden
What we do at this time of year depends entirely upon the weather. If it is fine and open, much like it is here in Colorado this year with our warm temperatures and not much snow yet on the eastern plains, we can do some construction work in the flower garden. If we need to make a new pathway, this could be a good time to do so...

A Nectar Source for Your Butterfly Garden

In your flower garden you may have an area that you have designated as your butterfly garden. Therefore, today I am highlighting the American Dream Coreopsis. This perennial provides a nectar source for butterflies.

The American Dream Coreopsis likes full sun and will grow in zones 4 - 8. It will grow to about 15 incles tall and almost 2 feet wide. It produces pink daisy-like flowers that have a yellow center and has dark green foliage that is quite fernlike, being thin and delicate.

It is drought tolerant which makes it a good perennial for the west if it grows in your zone. No high mountain tops here. You may also wish to consider not only having this perennial flower in your Butterfly Garden but also in a rock or English cottage garden. It will look nice in any type of naturalized area within your flower garden.
